On Thursday 8 October, ADELFAS participated alongside FIIAPP in the 3rd Online Meeting of the North Africa and Sahel Region of the EU cbrn Centres of Excellence, as co-implementer of the SecTransNAS project, to which it contributes a large number of experts.
This virtual meeting is a joint initiative of the European Union’s Directorate General for Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), which are the supervising bodies of the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence’s projects. The aim of this virtual meeting was, secondarily, to take stock of the state of progress of the projects but, in particular, to exchange views on the measures to be adopted to deal with the obstacle posed by the pandemic to the smooth running of the projects’ activities.
A number of ongoing projects in the North Africa and Sahel region were present, including 55, 70 and 63, all of which, in addition to mitigating the risks associated with them, have in commun the circulation of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear substances. Each of them approaches the issue from a specific angle: their transport (72, i.e. SecTransNAS and P.70), their border crossings (55 and 63), all of which strengthen management and response capacities.
Concerning the objective of the meeting, ADELFAS, like most of the other implementers, with the approval of the management structures, will develop, in collaboration with FIIAPP, online training modules, hold workshops by videoconference and feed video capsules into an e-learning platform to support training for most of the Work Packages, in order to ensure continuity. This is, in addition to the patience required in such a context, the end result of the meeting.
